The Wall family history

An Australian story that traces William ‘Cocky’ Wall’s journey when he was transported to Van Diemen’s Land in 1835 through to the Currency spanning 117 years. The Currency refers to the first generation born in the colonies, to their free-settler mothers and ex-convict father.

England where it all started

Between 23rd January and 18th February 1835, William Wall’s mother put together a petition seeking clemency for her son who was by this stage incarcerated on a prison hulk at Woolwich. The petition was supported by 33 citizens of Horncastle.
